Here are some testimonials from our existing parent and staff members, which you may find useful.
For me being a parent governor has enabled me to better understand how the school as run, to utilise my career skills in the governor role, and to broaden my knownnowledge/experience of both the school and the role of a school governor - by attending events, meetings, training and taking on dedicated roles (link governor and development governor). More importantly it has been an opportunity to work with truly dedicated staff and governors, and have fun!
I have been a governor for three years and during that time I have been involved with two committees as well as attending meetings of the full governing body. I found it really useful to understand the process of decision-making and crafting the vision and direction of the school. Attending governor training helped me to understand how schools are funded and the importance of having a strong team of governors who have the best interests of the students at heart.
If you would like an opportunity to develop professional knowledge and skills, or contribute towards decisions about issues that you feel passionate about, you should note your interest in becoming Staff Governor.
What does it mean to be a Staff Governor? Membership of the governing body provides insight into the school’s strategic direction. You would be expected to attend Full Governing Body meetings where whole school issues are explored. You will also join at least one specific sub-committee such as Student Development or Achievement and Curriculum during which these meetings specific issues are explored in detail.
These meetings, in addition to the range of external training offered, provide useful professional development opportunities which can be easily transferred to professional roles in school.
The governing body consists of a network of volunteers with varied experiences and areas of expertise which is utilised to ensure that strategic decisions are shaped by balanced and informed views. Underpinning the collective work of this group is the expectation that all students will have positive experiences of learning and achievement at school.
I have been a staff governor for four years and would be happy to discuss the role if you have any questions.
